Dr. Liu earned his Ph.D. in Epidemiology and completed postdoctoral training in Infectious Diseases. He has been actively engaged in research on water, sanitation, and diarrheal diseases. His work focuses on understanding the environmental transmission of infectious agents through laboratory, field, and clinical investigations.
Dr. Liu’s multidisciplinary research integrates environmental and clinical microbiology with epidemiological methods. His environmental microbiology studies emphasize the development and application of molecular techniques to detect pathogens in environmental samples. In parallel, his field research across Bangladesh, China, Ghana, India, Nepal, the Philippines, and the United States examines the impacts of water, sanitation, and hygiene on human health.
